The Ephesus Archaeological Museum in Selçuk is where the ruins finally make sense — it holds the finest finds from the ancient city, including the celebrated statues of Artemis.
Home of the Artemis statues
The museum's treasures are the two great statues of the Ephesian Artemis — the 'Beautiful Artemis' and the 'Great Artemis' — the goddess shown covered in rows of ovoid forms symbolising fertility and abundance. More highlights
Galleries display finds from the Terrace Houses, marble and bronze sculpture (including a famous Eros with a dolphin), friezes, coins, medical instruments and gladiator remains. It's compact, well-labelled and air-conditioned — a good midday escape from the heat.
Visitor tip
Visit after the ruins and the temple site — the objects here supply the missing context. It's in the centre of Selçuk, about €10 to enter.
